Story and Information of The Moon Crawler

A group of explorers arrives at a strange quarantined zone that has suddenly appeared on Earth, a bizarre ecosystem inhabited by countless monsters evolved from insects.

Among them is Dr. Lunis Membrac, an entomological researcher who ventures into the region to observe, document, and study these extraordinary lifeforms, while searching for the reason behind their sudden appearance on the planet. Unbeknownst to him however, he comes into contact with an unknown substance that infects and mutates the molecular structure of his cells.

As the days pass within this unnatural land, the longer he remains there, the more his fascination with its creatures grows. Deep in his heart, he begins to wish that he could stay in this place forever.

Years after the infection first took hold, he is no longer the same researcher he once was. His body has ceased to be human. Now, he has become the very kind of creature other researchers seek to study and record. Yet despite his transformation, he never lost his mind or sense of self, he is still himself. Unfortunately for the newly arrived humans, he no longer feels any attachment toward his own species. His feral instincts and playful cruelty see these fragile little beings as nothing more than excellent prey.

He is now known as The Moon Crawler, a name earned from the way he moves across massive trees and cliff faces, driving his sharp claws deep into solid surfaces as he climbs.

His scientific designation is Selenocrawlia membracid.

Seleno derives from Selene, meaning “moon.”
Crawlia comes from “crawler.”
Membracid references the scientific family name of treehoppers (Membracidae), the primary inspiration behind the character’s design. In particular, the species Cladonota apicalis, a treehopper with a crescent moon-shaped silhouette, heavily influenced his appearance.

The monster’s design combines traits from crescent shaped treehoppers and Pyrops lanternflies. One inspiration for the Pyrops influence comes from invasive alien species that devastate agricultural regions. Its unnatural palette of deep blue, cyan, and sharp red accents gives the creature a twisted, unsettling appearance.

At his core, he is still a mad researcher consumed by obsession. Since both treehoppers and Pyrops are sap-sucking insects, the creature was also imagined to possess a hardened proboscis-like tongue capable of piercing into prey and feeding from within.
