Shai Hulud is a fictional creature in the sci-fi novel "Dune" by Frank Herbert.The approximate translation of the term is "Eternal thing" or "Lord of the eternity". The creature is also known as the "sandworm" and is a giant silicon lifeform of the sands of the desert planet Arrakis.
