She was far too ordinary and far too unusual all at once. Nature had endowed her with rather dull, almost identical colors, while everyone else flaunted coats and manes in all the colors of the rainbow. Her stripes were practically invisible, blending right into her fur, yet they held a strange, unnatural shape that formed a confusing geometric pattern.

It wasn't that any of this caused her trouble, but as a child, she still wished she could identify with something real. Her mother had named her after a mineral that was almost impossible to find – only once, somewhere far away and long ago, ponies had discovered majorites on their lands. They were thrust to the surface after their Princesses fought each other so fiercely that stray magic evaporated lakes, tore open the earth, and triggered earthquakes that left deep canyons cutting through the forests. The few small crystals found at the battle site after everything settled down were later called the tears the Night Princess managed to shed right before her sister sealed her away on the Moon. Majorite didn't care much for this story, it carried far too much uncomfortable symbolism.

A zebra acquaintance who studied minerals had mentioned to her that overall, these "tears" were later found at meteorite impact sites. Maybe she'd get lucky and find one too? If only to wipe away the unpleasant association... Though perhaps it was all just an excuse to justify the journey she was about to embark on. A sort of pilgrimage in search of herself. Even if it came with an obviously unattainable goal...

...or so she thought, right up until the moment she quite accidentally stumbled upon her very first meteorite in the far north. No, there was no majorite inside it, of course. But a chunk of rock cracked open by a strike of her hoof revealed a metallic sheen she couldn't possibly mistake.
