Spending some time just wandering through a hot and wet tropical forest was a planned part of your vacation trip. You have had decent knowledge of the local flora and fauna, thus knew rather well how to behave in certain tricky situations which are fairly easy to encounter being surrounded by the wildlife, especially so when alone. And you were alone, with only yourself to trust and rely on. So far you were doing good, getting through a vaguely planned route without much of an issue, enjoying yourself in this untouched place.

Yet, none of your knowledge you gained beforehand would have you prepared for one particular kind of creatures you were about to encounter.

Hypnosnakes. Often referred to as just a local myth which civilized creatures like yourself have learned from local tribes - there still were a few ones, stuck a few hundreds of years back in time at the very least - they were told to be rare and basically impossible to find on purpose. "The snake only finds its victim when it wants to, and the said victim wouldn't be able to escape at all once the snake looks in their eyes", the tribe said. Apparently you were not on the hypnosnakes' list since you haven't encountered any, what a luck!

But for real you just assumed it was complete nonsense and didn't even bother to read that one article which had a rather detailed description of these mysterious creatures.

Suddenly, passing under a low branch you could literally feel someone's gaze on the back of your head. It was a sensation everyone knows and no one can explain, but stronger than ever. You stopped, slowly turning around in place. All you could see before feeling dizzy all of a sudden, was a simple green snake, hanging off a thick branch in a rather unnatural way, facing you, having its eyes much bigger than usual snakes did, facing forward too. Once you, even if briefly, caught the snake's stare, you couldn't resist. A sudden numbing wave flew through your body, making you choke on your own breath for a moment. Yet, you kept staring, mouth half-open, whole body weak and powerless. The snake was tasting air rather oftenly with its long tongue just like many other reptiles did. But you didn't care, you didn't even look. The center of your attention were the snake's eyes, swirling in a colorful pattern, getting brighter and slowly filling your eyesight more and more. Before you could realize, your legs started walking somewhere, getting off the planned route into the depths of the forest. You could not do anything, you could barely think of anything, barely even see. Surrounding noises have blended into static, and your own mind - or what was left of it at this point - was just trapped in its own shell.

After some time vision and hearing returned, yet you couldn't move, sitting there on the ground, somewhere in a darker place, still surrounded by trees and grass. The snake was still there. You could feel something changed...you were fully naked. You could feel yourself moving slowly and bending your body in poses... Quite elegant poses, as if doing a slow dance for someone...

Only then you noticed them. Members of one of the local tribes that were sitting around, watching you. Watching your dance, chanting in an unknown language, playing unknown instruments. And you just kept dancing, led by both the snake's affection and the slow rhythm...

...yet another adventurous creature was reported as missing in the Mesmerizing Forest a few days later. Nobody even tried to search. Everyone knew it was pointless.

    Or was it?
